The USA’s deployment of MQ-9 Reaper in Estonia is significant as this is the first time that this platform has been used in the country.
USA deployed MQ-9 Reaper to Estonia under NATO’s authority. MQ-9 Reapers were transported from the Miroslawiec Air Base in Poland. Thus, MQ-9 Reaper was deployed for the first time in Estonia. Throughout the deployment period, MQ-9 Reapers will support NATO’s ISR operations.
The purpose of the deployment is to carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) activities in Europe. With this deployment, ISR activities will be possible to carry out through the use of Amari Air Base. General Jason Hind said that they were particularly focused on land, air and naval operations, the U.S. European Air Force took the needs of NATO allies in consideration and worked in coordination with the Estonian Air Force to carry out these tasks.
The Estonian Air Force put the assets in Amari Air Base in service for the deployment and ISR operations.
