Cargo unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) will be used to meet the logistics needs of the Turkish Armed Forces in the operation areas.
Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) will be coordinating the development and improvement of UAVs and UCAVs for multiple levels of fields and operations, utilizing indşgenous and national capabilities in order to improve the operational capabilities of security forces and respond to latest threats and demands on the field.
SSB announced the project to develop a Vertical Take Off and Land (VTOL) UAV on the tender announced on June 2018. Ismail Demir announced that the evaluations of the project had been concluded and they had signed a contract with Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii ([Turkish Aerial and Space Industrial] TUSAŞ) regarding the development of VTOL UAVs.
TUSAŞ social media accounts have recently shared developments about the cargo delivery UAVs:
“Our Vertical Take Off and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle project will be of help in the logistical needs of our Turkish Armed Forces in the mountainous regions with speed and reliability.”
Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir, saying the capabilities of the Cargo UAV will be improved upon after the feedback received in operations in mountainous regions, added:
“Cargo UAV system will hopefully be ready for serial production in 2021. It can carry up to 50 kilograms of payload. The Cargo UAV has an endurance of one hour, and can carry the necessary cargo between two set points if necessary. In the future, we hope that it will provide the required logistical support of our heroes need on the field. Our project of Cargo UAVs that can carry up to 150 kilograms is also under development.”
