Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), and Boeing signed a cooperation agreement in order to enhance the capacity for manufacturing thermoplastic parts that are compatible with aviation standards. With this new agreement, a new pillar has been added to the ongoing cooperation between BOEING and TAI.
TAI General Manager Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil said: “We are excited to sign a new agreement with our strategic partner BOEING. We will continue to boost cooperation for new technologies and guide the aviation sector with such important collaborations. As the company that guides the most important projects in our country, we will make high-quality products and make our thermoplastic investments, and we will reduce the cost significantly. “
Boeing Turkey General Manager Ayşem Sargın stated: “This agreement adds a new dimension to TAI and Boeing partnership sustaining for many years and also expands the scope of Technology Cooperation articulated in National Aviation Plan we announced in 2017. Such rooted projects which contribute to the development of Turkish aviation, act as an indicator of our confidence in Turkey that we consider as a partner, and also our permanent cooperation.”
TAI made a new investment for the design and production of thermoplastic composite parts, which will be utilized in future aircraft and incorporate high-capacity rapid production technology, with the technical support and experience yielded from the cooperation with BOEING. With the project called “High-Efficiency Affordable Rapid Thermoplastic” (w – HEART), it is predicted that thermoplastic composite parts to be produced in high quality will reduce the cost in the production cycle and process areas by 30% compared to conventional composites.
TAI gained the capability of thermoplastic composite products as well as being a high-capacity, high-quality and fast production technology facility with fully automated machines. The facility, which will enable the training of technical personnel to work in this field, will produce thermoplastic composite parts at world standards with local and national facilities.
Energy and Cost-Saving
TAI put into service a new facility that will enable the production of fully automated and high-quality parts without human intervention, using thermoplastic materials that provide energy and cost savings, as well as reducing the weight of aircraft with the technical support under the agreement. The agreement is of importance as it adds a new dimension to the long-standing successful partnership with TAI, reinforces strategic cooperation with Turkey and Turkey’s National Aerospace Plan as well as the cooperation in the field of technology.
Thermoplastic composites to be produced at high quality will be utilized to produce parts of various sizes and geometries for use in the aviation industry, especially TAI’s original products.
