KARGU suicide UAV was used in “Fire Free-2020” drills proving the Turkish Armed Forces’ firepower.
Produced by Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. (STM), KARGU Autonomous Rotary Wing Attack Drone was for the first time used in the Fire Free-2020 drill.
Ministry of National Defence stated after the drill:
“After the said firing, Kargu suicide UAV attacked the target. Successfully destroying its target, KARGU suicide UAV completed its initial service.”
Feedback from the field matter
An intensive process UAV is underway for the orders of KARGU Autonomous Rotary Wing Attack, which entered the inventory of TAF.
The tests of all versions of KARGU offered to the use of the TAF are precisely completed in accordance with quality standards. In addition, the feedback from the field and the gains acquired during the production process are helpful to create a more effective KARGU.
KARGU swarm will be operational for 1 or 1,5 years
The first applications for the use of KARGU in a swarm, which can operate with its very advanced computer vision capabilities, were also made last year. More than 20 KARGU platforms have been made operable in swarms with the work completed.
Researches on this issue are still underway, especially with regard to improving swarm algorithms and performing different tasks. In order for the drone swarm to operate in any environment without facing any challenges, the KERKES project is still being carried out. After the project is finalized, KARGU suicide drones, which have fully gained the swarm capability in approximately 1-1,5 years, will be available to the use of TAF.
KARGU will be integrated into various platforms
There are also some other efforts for the integration of KARGU to various platforms. KARGU, which has been used by the TSK and gendarmerie units up to the present, will be able to operate with various platforms, especially naval platforms, in the forthcoming period.
Increasing demand for STM’s indigenous UAV KARGU
After operated by TAF in the field, there was a great interest especially for KARGU in the international arena. Joining tests and trials in different countries for export markets, KARGU was appreciated for its performance. The suicide drone was tested under tropical, desert and tundra climatic conditions in this process and demonstrate that it can successfully operate.
In the press release released on June 15, STM stated that talks for the UAV still continued with 3 countries for the export of Kamikaze drone KARGU. Underscoring that Turkey’s friendly and brotherly countries conducted high-level meetings, STM announced that negotiations on the export of autonomous drone systems were recently completed and that it was preparing to grab a slice of history for the export.
