The Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet has recently been conducting exercises with minelayers, submarines and warships
According to the statement made on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Defence, Russia exercised with its submarines in the Black Sea. Within the scope of the exercise, Kilo-class submarines B-271 Kolpino and B-262 Stary Oskol belonging to the Black Sea Fleet fired torpedoes from underwater. The following statements were made in the press release on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Defence:
“The crews of the diesel-electric submarines “Kolpino” and “Stary Oskol” of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) fired practical torpedoes from underwater. During the event, the submarines transitioned to the combat training area, carried out a series of preparatory exercises and dived to a predetermined depth for firing.
The submarine crew successfully completed the assigned tasks and fired torpedoes from a submerged position at a simulated sea target at an acceptable safe distance determined by one of the ships of the fleet.
Upon completion of the firing, all torpedoes were lifted from the water by a torpedo boat. The effectiveness of the use of torpedo weapons by the crews of the Black Sea submarines will be evaluated after receiving data on the aiming of torpedoes at the target in laboratory conditions. Torpedo firing is a mandatory element of combat training of submarines and is carried out according to the approved plan”
Russia had carried out a mine exercise in the Black Sea
According to the statement that had been made on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Russian Black Sea fleet’s Buyan-M-class corvettes RFS Grayvoron, RFS Ingushetia, RFS Vyshny Volochyok, Alexandrit-class minesweeper coastal RFS Ivan Antonov, Natya-class minesweeper RFS Kovrovets had participated in the mine laying and minefield crossing exercise.
