The advanced composite “Fast Intervention Craft” ONUK MRTP16 is the evolution of the proven ONUK KO-01 deep V hull of the legendary “Kaan 15” Class ONUK MRTP15 Fast Intervention Craft of the Turkish Coast Guard. The ONUK KO-02 hull and structure is a very substantial improvement over the well proven ONUK KO-01. ONUK MRTP16 is developed as a versatile Multi Role Tactical Platform (MRTP) for increasingly tough requirements of the law enforcement and naval forces to control the littoral and coastal waters. Internally, the advanced machinery systems and arrangement result in a vessel with greatly enhanced operability, maintainability and accommodation standards.

PRIMARY ROLES

• Patrol / Attack to achieve selective area control and denial
• Combating Maritime Terrorism
• Drug Interdiction
• Search and Rescue
• Living Marine Resource Enforcement
• Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations
• Sea Ambulance

BACKGROUND

The advanced composites structure of the ONUK MRTP16 is designed and constructed to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) HSLC Classification Rules. Because of its size the ONUK MRTP16 will carry DNV Certification conform to “Standard for Certification, Craft (April 2008)” with the structure designed to DNV HSLC rules. With more than 44 units in service in The Turkish Customs, Turkish Ministry of Health and other foreign users, the ONUK MRTP16 is a well proven versatile extremely fast and robust to extreme platform..

PERFORMANCE

Speed and sea keeping: Depending on engine / configuration selection, the proven ONUK KO-02 deep V hull will enable the boat to reach speeds above 70 knots in calm waters and above 45 knots in Sea State 3, allowing rapid reaction comparable to a helicopter but can be used in confined spots and rough weather conditions not suitable for helicopter operation.. Proven in operation, the ONUK MRTP16 is capable to operate in adverse sea and weather conditions. The steerable Twin Disc Arneson Surface Drive System provides extreme manoeuvrability and a very shallow draught, enhancing the operability in confined waters. ONUK MRTP16 is one of the fastest known platforms of this size with a mission payload capability in the range of 1,5 tons. Stability: Intact-Damaged: Naval standards have been applied to the ONUK MRTP16 for the intact and damaged stability. ONUK MRTP16 meets the Turkish Navy, NATO and DNV criteria for damaged stability and will remain afloat and upright with flooding In any single main compartment. CONSTRUCTION AND

COMPONENTS

ONUK MRTP 16 is built in advanced composites to satisfy the very tough requirements of an intensive professional use together with a long service life.
The benefits of the advanced composite structure are:

WEIGHT REDUCTION

Improved Performance Increased Payload Fuel Savings

CORROSION RESISTANCE

Longer service life Maintenance savings IMPROVED Threat avoidance / detection Ballistic protection REDUCED SIGNATURES Machinery vibration / acoustic Magnetic signature Heat signature The helm station and the interiors have been designed in line with the SAE recommendations for ergonomics to provide the crew with maximum comfort and minimum fatigue in prolonged use in heavy seas. Machinery and propulsion The mechanical components are selected with the intensive professional use in mind. They offer a high level of reliability, despite the extreme performance requirements. The propulsion is by twin diesels, Twin Disc Arneson Surface Drives and Rolla surface piercing propellers. Depending on the speed requirements, the ONUK MRTP16 can be equipped with different components for optimum operational efficiency /price ratio

MISSION MODULES

ONUK MRTP16 can be equipped with various mission modules depending on the customer requirements. Despite the size of the platform, these modules have been integrated with the modularity and reconfigurability objectives in mind. Thus, the platform can be reconfigured with different mission modules, increasing dramatically the operational flexibility and reducing the costs. The mission modules would be:

• Multi weapon mounts: Stabilized ASELSAN STAMP turret with 12,7mm MG or Gau-19 Gatling gun or 40mm Mk.19 Grenade Launcher • Multi sensor surveillance suite • Short range missiles • Search and rescue equipment • SOF (Special Operation Force) support /SDV (Seal Delivery Vehicle)
