Part of the first FNSS / Deftech AV-8 Gempita 8 × 8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) batch which was delivered to the Malaysian Navy was equipped with the M242 Bushmaster 25mm gun. Armoured combat vehicles with this amphibious feature make up the bulk of the 19th Mechanized Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (19 RAMD Mek).
It was stated in the press bulletin which was shared by FNSS that the AV-8 AENBCRV (NBC Reconnaissance) Vehicle was also preparing to enter the Malaysia Armed Forces inventory. Within the scope of the project, 4 AENBCRV vehicles were planned to be delivered. It was reported that the first one will be the vehicle that completes the qualification tests, while the remaining three vehicles will be produced by FNSS and delivered to the user by 2020.
AV-8 project of FNSS and Malaysia officially came into force on May 4 2011.
The current cost of the project was announced as $ 559 Million, which includes the development and the production of 257 units of 8 × 8 Wheeled Armoured Combat Vehicles (AV8) in 12 different configurations for the Malaysian Armed Forces.
