FIRTINA NG is equipped with new capabilities and up-to-date technologies.

Key requirements, which are necessary for the tuture artiliery were developed. Based on the individual automony, FIRTINA NG was designed to perform the artillery needs for the future.

Long firing range, on-board ballistic computer, inertial navigation system, electrically driven automatic projectile loading system, propellant conditioning unit bring FIRTINA NG into combat arena as a fully autonomous and excellent firing asset. High degree of automation allows FIRTINA NG to react in a short tima to execute its mission, with reduce manpower.

NATO standardization requirements and Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMOU) are fully met, which provides the interchangeability of NATO ammunition. This creates a potential procurement opportunity for NATO allies and friendly nations.

“FIRTINA NG increases both burst and sustained rate of fire, sharply reduce reaction time, simplify field operation.”

TECHNICAL CONCEPT

One Gun – One Battery: FIRTINA NG offers rapid deployment and relocation and may be separately managed as a guri unit if required.

Shoot and Scoot: After receiving fire command, FIRTINA NG is able to fire on a target within 30 seconds, to complete fire mission and relocation in 90 seconds.

Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact: With different elevation angles and charge zones, FIRTINA NG is able to hit the same target with three rounds at the same time. Effective Direct and General Support Range Capability

Superior Mobility and Survivability: Integration with ADOP – 2000/FSAP -2000 (FSAP / Fire Support Automation Project-2000)

FIRTINA NG is particularly suitable for fire suppart (direct and general support) missions at the brigade and battalion levels with 40 km range. The artillery will be able to engage to the enemy far in the depth and to eliminate threats to friendly units much earlier.

Since each FIRTINA NG has a capability to perform the given mission as a battery, the battery can be used as two companies, having three howitzers for each, or can be used individually in the combat environment.

“The barrel chamber is designed to acommodate all standard NATO charges.”

WEAPON SYSTEM

  • Barrel Dİameter: 155 mm
  • Barrel Lenght: 52 mm
  • Number of Growing: 48
  • Twist Rate: 1:20
  • Breech: Sliding Breech Mechanism that can be opened upward
  • Muzzle Brace: Multiple Buffer
  • Primer Mechanism: Automatic with Maganize System

RATE OF FIRE
The barrel is of 52-caliber length, mono- block in design and has a chamber volume of 23 liters. It is auto frettaged to improve the fatigue life of the tube. The rifling is of constant, 1 in 20 right hand twist.

The barrel chamber is designed to acommodate all standard NATO charges, including M3 and M4 series, as well as modular charges.

Physical Specifications

  • Lenght: 13.1 m
  • Width: 3.40m
  • Height: 3.85 m
  • Ground Clearance: 0.42 m
  • Combat Weight: 48 tons

Mobility

  • Suspension: Hydro-Pneomatic
  • Max. Velocity: 65 km/h
  • Gradient: %60
  • Climbing: 0.75 m
  • Trench: 2.80 m
  • Fording: 1.5 m
  • Cruising Range: 360 km

The suspension system is composed of twelve externally-mounted hydrogas suspension units and wheels further ensure that crew travel in relative comfort, even over rough ground.

“The Next Generation Fire Control System ensures fully autonomous artillery fire control.”

THE NEXT GENERATION FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM

The Inertial Navigation System determines the FIRTINA NGS position and barrel aiming.

Automatic projectile loading system incorporates with Ballistic Computer und automatically loads the projectile to the gun barrel sequentialy. Chain Type Projectile Magazine provides crew to select any projectile without any antecedence.

The Onboard Ballistic Computer ensures fully autonomous artillery technical fire control. It was linked to other onboard equipment and external fire control command posts. The software was developed by using NATO Artillery Ballistic Kernel (NABK) with a Graphical User Interface (GU) to achieve user friendly gunner display unit.

The gun laying system receives the firing quadrant elevation (OE) and azimuth (AZ) values from Ballistic Computer to engage the barrel to the target automatically in autornatic mocie. It also has semi-automatic backup mode and manuel laying.

“Propellant conditioning unit gauges the temperature, transmits data automatically Fire Control Computer to be used in ballistic calculations.”

“The Next Generation Fire Control System provides capability for rapid deployment, repositioning, preparation for firing, computerized fire management/control and integration to other fire support systems digitally.”

“In oder to sustain continuous mission in extreme hot temperatures, crew fatigue is prevented by Air Condition System.”

SURVIVABILITY AND SAFETY

  • Automatic fire detection and suppression system
  • Driver Vision System (ADIS)
  • NBC Protection System
  • Ballistic Protection Against; 14,5 mm Machine Gun Shells, Anti-Personel Mines and Fragmentation.

In NBC battlefield, a combined NBC and ventilation system allow the crew member for breathing fresh air. Each member of the crew has one NBC mask which is integrated to NBC filtering unit individually.

The basic ballistic protection consists of armour steel (RHA) which resists against 14,5 mm AP shell and 155 mm shell fragmentation.

ADIS provides Thermal and CCD Camera for front and rear sight and increases situational awareness of crew.
