ATAK-II Heavy Class Attack Helicopter took off for the first time.
The ATAK-II Heavy Class Attack Helicopter project started on 17 February 2019. After the completion of the design and structural production activities, ground tests were initiated and successfully concluded the tests with the initial engine start requirements. The first engine start, which is one of the most important bends of the project, was carried out successfully on April 23, 2023.
As of April 28, 2023, it successfully carried its first test flight between 15.00 and 15.15 by cutting its wheels completely off the ground. ATAK-II, the world’s third helicopter in this class, has a weight of 10 tons and an ammunition capacity of 1200 kg.
Ukrainian engines of ATAK II received
As a result of the technological know-how and operational experience gained within the scope of the T129 ATAK and T625 GÖKBEY projects, the Heavy Class Attack Helicopter Project (ATAK II) was initiated. Another factor in taking this decision was Turkey’s desire to meet its future needs.
In April 2019, a contract was signed for the T0 prototype. ATAK-II was designed with indigenous capabilities in line with the objectives of increased payload and ammunition capacity (1,200 kg excluding launchers), modern avionics systems, reduced logistics costs and high performance.
Within the scope of the program, two TV3-117VMA-SBM1V-01T Turboshaft Engines produced by Ukrainian Motor Sich were delivered to TAI on January 27, 2023. In this context, it was planned to integrate the engines into the helicopter in March.
