ASELSAN’s set of improvements on ALTAY Tank has granted it improved survivability, self-protection means and superior firepower.
Tanks to be produced within the scope of ASELSAN’s ALTAY Mass Production Project will be optimized to maximum efficiency in respect to the “Iron Triangle” of armored vehicles by modules such as; Fire Control System, Electrical Cannon and Turret Traverse System, Command-Control Communication and Information System, Driver Visor System, Laser Warning System, Remote Controlled Weapon System, Battlefield Identification System, Close Range Surveillance System, AKKOR Active Protection System and built-in training simulator mode.
AKKOR Active Protection System
AKKOR is a type of lightweight active protection system that basically adds an extra layer of protection against armor-defeating high velocity projectiles. Active Protection Systems are essentially hard-kill systems that prevent the projectiles from harming the vehicle by three means;
1- Disturbing the ballistic trajectory and stability of the kinetic energy (KE) ammunitions hence lowering the penetration capability.
2- Causing shaped charges like HEAT rounds, rockets or ATGMs to prematurely trigger thus creating a larger medium for the hypersonic molten jet to traverse, significantly reducing penetration probability.
3- Intercepting and destroying the airframe of the projectile by explosive filler (shaped charges or HE-Frag).
AKKOR System consists of four main components; Threat Detection and Tracking Radar, Central Computer for processing data, Countermeasure Launcher that directs preemptive munitions towards constantly calculated interception point (CCIP) and the hard-kill munition that possesses a radar of its own aiding in high-precision adjustments and fuze. The entire system operates in the scale of milliseconds to successfully defeat threats.
